How do I explain to Andy that I just need this? I mean, what if I meet a fish who wants to visit me? How will it possibly get around without its own Big Fish Walker?

Finally, Curls

| Comments

I was bored bored bored with my existing props, so I raided my jewelry supplies. These lovely little solid gold curls are sitting on top of waxed lava stone beads. Of course, this did make for some exciting photography - just picture me balancing teeeeeny little gold hoops on waxed marbles. Jenga fans, read ‘em and weep! But it was all worth it in the end, cos I’m loving these photos! They’re like some kind of wild moonscape a la “The Little Prince”…

Ooh, Shiny!

I had to take a photo of my new bench block and planishing hammer while they’re still shiny and new! Off to hack them up now. Oh, and my solid 14K gold wire arrived, too, so some of my earrings are now available in solid gold. Just convo me on Etsy if you’re interested in something in solid 14K gold that you don’t see listed in my shop.

Sink update: currently my friendly plumber has somewhere between 10 and 30 feet of snake stuck in my pipes, and it won’t come back out. Oh, and the pipes are still blocked. Just look at the shiny hammer… Look at the shiny hammer…

Welcome to the Swamp

I had a good look at my Etsy shop this weekend, and realized that I have quite a few pieces that I still haven’t listed. I’m all backed up on my photography. So I set aside the morning to photograph some pieces.

I was on a roll and feeling really happy, right up until lunchtime, when my kitchen sink backed up. It’s not draining
at all. Not even a little. So I now have a swamp in my kitchen sink. I thought if I could just fix this, it would go away. So I tried plunging it. Of course, all that happened is that water backed up out of my air gap. If I’ve plugged that, my dishwasher will start backing up next. Lovely. Apparently I’m some kind of domestic antichrist.

Off to have some lunch. Followed by fudge. Maybe a sugar high will make this all look manageable…

Oh Beery Me

When you’re married to a micro brew nut you see a lot of vats. I just love all that stainless steel and wood - it just makes me want to, I don’t know, make something. I’m going to try to squeeze some design time into next week. New beads are a-coming, including some fabulous faceted crystal balls that remind me of disco balls. And I’ve got some solid 14K gold wire coming too, so look for some of my classic designs in solid gold. Can’t wait!

Could you find a place in your heart for this lonely waif? I’m tempted, but I already have a Jacabob and and an Ursabob living with me, and they’ve pretty much staked out my bedside table…

Saturday in an Alternate Universe

Felt inspired and really shopping-esque this morning, so we headed out bright and early. There’s no point in shopping when I’m not in the mood, because everything is completely ugly. Today, definitely in the mood.

Having said that, when we got to the mall, we somehow arrived in an alternate universe. Don’t believe me? Thanks to Andy’s new favorite toy (his iPhone), I have photographic proof. I hereby submit two items into evidence.

Item 1: the iPod vending machine. I kid you not. Tripped over this in Macys of all places. Apparently the fact that there’s a huge Apple store at the other end of the mall should not stop you from buying a iPod out of a vending machine in Macys.

Item 2: Mannequin crime scene. There’s no way anything normal leaves this kind of shrapnel.

I rest my case.

If you like chai as much as I do, this spice kit is the real deal. Sorry, gotta go. Somewhere out there is a lonely mug of chai looking for a friend…

Up From the Ashes

I’m feeling a bit dreamy today, so for show and tell I’m sharing a piece of sculpture. This piece is sculpted from clay and soda fired. I normally wouldn’t fire a soda kiln just for sculpture, because it’s an involved process and takes a long time. But I managed to slide this piece in the soda kiln at school when some really talented potters were firing.

This piece was matte black before I fired it. All of the shine and the white dots are where the soda settled. I love how the soda accents the ridges and swirls in this piece. Haven’t had the heart to sell this one yet - so far it’s just for me!
